The University of Bucharest is considered the most important educational, research and cultural institution in Romania, acquiring, in its over 150 years of existence, a solid national and international prestige.
The numerous generations of students and professors have managed to impose our University as one of the reference institutions for the entire Romanian society, being the first Romanian institution existing in the first 600 universities in the world.
The University of Bucharest offers numerous study programs, at all levels and forms of university training: 93 bachelor’s programs, 208 master’s programs, 21 doctoral programs, professional retraining and improvement programs. All programs offered are accredited or authorized. The University of Bucharest also organizes the TIFFIN EMBA master’s program.
The diplomas awarded by the University of Bucharest are recognized in most countries of the world. Within the University of Bucharest there are study programs organized in collaboration with prestigious universities abroad. Graduates of these programs can receive diplomas from the University of Bucharest and the partner university.
The University of Bucharest is one of the most important scientific research centers in the country. The University has over 50 institutes, departments and research centers, most of them working in collaboration with similar scientific centers abroad. In recent years, our institution has consistently ranked first in national competitions for research funding. Some of the research units have obtained the status of excellence at European level. The university has its own research bases in Sinaia, Brăila, Orşova and pilot stations in other localities in the country.
The University of Bucharest is integrated in a strong international collaboration network: 300 bilateral collaboration agreements with universities from 52 countries. Annually, over 1000 students of the University of Bucharest carry out, within a large number of academic programs, training or specialization stages in universities in Western Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, etc.
The University of Bucharest was and is the initiator of important measures for the reform and development of higher education that were taken over by other universities in the country or were the basis for the elaboration of national laws and regulations.
In 2000, the University of Bucharest received the Diploma of Excellence conferred by the Ministry of National Education.
In 2011, the University of Bucharest was classified by the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports as the first university for advanced research and education in Romania.
In 2014, the University of Bucharest celebrated its 150th anniversary.
